Brand illustrations for twist
In 2021, Twist, an app for team async communication, underwent a major redesign. As such, the team decided to update its brand, and the illustration style was no exception.
After many people were being forced into working from home as a result of the pandemic lockdowns, we started looking at our home environments and surrounding spaces very differently. We observed a rising trend of customized and unique spaces, reflecting our personalities and individual needs.
Until this point, the digital space has been depicted in a very narrow, one-dimensional way — abstract representations, tiny human figures interacting with floating, transparent UI elements were common representations.
My goal was to depict surreal spaces that breathe life into the otherwise digital, faceless, and impersonal 'remote space.' Characters should reflect the idea that within the digital realm, individuals are not confined to their physical forms; avatars can embody the full spectrum of human expression and diversity. By employing collage compositions and integrating real textures, we aimed to transcend the limitations of traditional digital representations, infusing remote spaces with tangible soul and personality.
By embracing real textures—marble, wood, sculptures, and photographic elements—we hoped to transport users to a tangible world that stimulates their senses.
